Concept Laser does not have in-process control capabilities. Concept Laser uses a camera system similar to Mazumder, Arcam, and Sciaky in viewing the melting powder and tool path. These cameras cannot guarantee complete and thorough metal powder melting as the lens cannot penetrate through the surface. Similar to the lens system is Stratonics Thermaviz where only surface temps are measured by a lens dependent pyrometer. The problem lies in penetrating the surface to ensure complete phase change.
Even knowing the material properties and setting a target temperature will not suffice. If it was as simple as setting a temperature, then all that is needed is temperature probes inside each printing machine.
