It's a similar story at RMS Medical products in Chester. The company, which makes a pump used by people who have an immune disease, is looking for new employees in production and purchasing and even a few executive assistants. The company has hired at least three people in the past six weeks.

"We don't seem to be in sync with the economy," CEO Andrew Sealfon said. "We're doing what we do independent of where the economy is."

RMS has been on a growth spurt because of wide acceptance of its pump and Food and Drug Administration approvals for a needle set accompanying the main product. It's been considering a move to a larger space.

"We hire on demand only," Sealfon said. "The silliness about not hiring because of uncertainty or that debt is too high is all silly talk. Manufacturers hire in direct proportion to need."
