Yes, death and taxes are inevitable. I never suggested naked shorts can avoid taxes on their illegal sale of "counterfeit" shares. I am saying, in response to your question in your post, that naked shorters don't have to complete their short transaction (i.e., cover) if they can argue successfully that the stock in question is a "worthless security" that has no market.
