The problem is not with the response, it's how the response was enacted.
You had the opportunity to "rise above" the allegation that you perceived, and could have answered in a professional, CEO-like manner. Instead, once again, you chose the low road and went immediately to basest of replies. You're, in essence, cutting off your nose to spite your face.
The poster may have been asking an innocent question, seeking a truly genuine answer to something that was reportedly rumored to him. Stop reading between the lines of every post and assuming everyone is out to discredit or attack you.
At some point, if you want to be taken seriously, you need to elevate your game.
