The irony being that in 1985 the FDA approved Marinol (active ingredient: synthetic THC) for patients suffering from side effects of chemotherapy, and then in 1992 expanded application to AIDS patients as a means of stimulating their appetite for food. However, cannabis is much preferred by patients over synthetic THC. Marinol is Schedule III. Cannabis is Schedule I. How does that make sense?
