Target, Walmart see strong Black Friday sales
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — Retail data for Black Friday released later Saturday are expected to show a strong start to the holiday season. More than 22 million customers shopped at Walmart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT) on Thanksgiving and its website processed nearly 400 million page views, the retailer said Friday, adding that customers flocked to electronics like televisions, iPad mini tablets and laptops. Walmart said its results beat last year’s 22 million on Thanksgiving. Target Corp. (NYSE:TGT) said its website saw among the highest single-day traffic and sales on Thanksgiving, with twice as many orders from a year ago in the early morning. Popular items included televisions and the iPad air. Online sales on Thanksgiving topped $1 billion for the first time with 20.9% of traffic coming from mobile, according to data from Adobe.
