The pics we have are "all about the money honey" ,otherwise they probably wouldnt be allowed either-and safety concerns due to the hard cash cow tourist business are why Ensenada is 1 of the safer places-maybe even why a naval base is very close to the cruise terminal- 4.5 million visitors each yr to Ensenada

Overview

Ensenada, only a 90-minute drive from San Diego, is very rarely used as a cruise departure port; however, it is featured on many Mexican Riviera cruises. What was once a laid back fishing village is now a very popular Mexican beach resort. Aside from its beach resorts, Ensenada is also well known for having great weather, shopping and wine.

Destinations
The following destinations can be visited on a cruise leaving from Ensenada, Mexico:

Currency
The official currency of Mexico is the Mexican peso (MXN). US Dollars are accepted at many places as well. Using a credit card whenever possible is a great way to avoid having to exchange currency.

Language
The official language of Mexico is Spanish. However, many locals will speak English in the main tourist areas.

Tourist Attractions
Bodegas de Santo Tomas, established in 1888, is the oldest winery in Baja California. There is a two-week long celebration (called Fiestas de la Vendimia) every August, at the start of the wine harvesting season.

Riviera del Pacifico used to be a
resort and casino. Today this beautiful building is used as a convention center and art show center. There's an art museum located across from this area.

La Bufadora is a famous blowhole located about 20 miles south of Ensenada. It's the second-largest marine geyser in the world, and is located south of town on Highway 1. The spout occurs every minute or so, at varying heights. There is a museum, restaurants and shops in this area.

Hussong's Cantina is a famous bar and landmark in Ensenada, established back in 1892 and supposedly is where the margarita was invented. Papas & Beer, right across the street, is another popular bar in this area with a typically younger crowd than Hussong's.

El Malecon is a boardwalk located in downtown Ensenada's waterfront. This area is typically filled with both tourists and locals, and is great for "people watching." Right by this area is Avenida Lopez Mateos, one of the main streets in Ensenada, featuring many restaurants and stores.

Whale watching is a popular activity to participate in while in Ensenada during the whale migration season (from December through March, and then from April through May).

As far as things to do for the more active travelers go, this area is a great place for some windsurfing. Bajamar is an excellent 27-hole ocean front golf resort in this area.

Port Location
Cruise ships dock in a large commercial port, with a market and various shops in the area. The main tourist area, Avenida Lopez Mateos, is within walking distance of the pier. For those that would prefer to take a quick taxi ride, rather than walk, that is an easy option.
