Good post ! The key is to make sure that you do not own more than 35M shares in your name. If shares are in other family names such as my total amount of shares it is legal as long as you are not the person authorized to trade or invest for that person. I checked with the SEC. If your name is not on that person's account you should be good. They go by social security number if you are a US citizen. Not sure how they track Canadian or other foreign investors.
