I agree with both yours and kgem's view point on the technologies available to these companies. The only comment I have on your post is that these articles your seeing on the web are written by the company who owns the technology and then provided to media to print or post. So depending on their motives to put these articles out there I'd only take them with a grain of salt. But I'm sure glad the tigerlynk is with himr and look forward to that first tree coming out of the water.
