Nat'l Inst of Health: THC Cannabinoid Helpful in Treatment of Parkinson’s Disease
Abstract
INTRODUCTION:
Cannabinoids such as ?9-tetrahydrocannabinol (?9-THC) are neuroprotective in animal and cell culture models of Parkinson’s disease (PD). In a PD cell culture model we recently demonstrated that 9-THC is neuroprotective through activation of the nuclear receptor peroxisomal proliferator-activated receptor. (PPAR).
Add this November 2013 report – soon to be published it the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry (in next month’s hard copy issue) – to the long list of scientific research, documenting marijuana’s THC cannabinoid as demonstrating remarkable positive medicinal effects. Already accessible to the public, the National Institute of Health was the first to disseminate the report online.
