Deaths from cancer: 577,190 (total) 301,820 (male) 275,370 (female)
"About 1,638,910 new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in 2012. This estimate does not include carcinoma in situ (non-invasive cancer) of any site except urinary bladder, and does not include basal and squamous cell skin cancers, which are not required to be reported to cancer registries."
"In 2012, about 577,190 Americans are expected to die of cancer, more than 1,500 people a day. Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the US, exceeded only by heart disease, accounting for nearly 1 of every 4 deaths."
In 2012, Utah had lowest rate of cancer (158.3/100,000) among all 50 states and D.C. Mississippi had highest rate (276.1/100,000). California (197.4/100,000).
World Health Organization (WHO): "Cancer is one of the most common causes of death, with nearly 7 million deaths each year worldwide. Right now 24.6 million people are living with cancer, and by 2020 it is projected that there will be 16 million new cancer cases and 10 million cancer deaths every year."
