U.S. stocks finish near lows as shutdown drags on
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — U.S. stocks closed lower Tuesday near fresh session lows, as the partial government shutdown entered its eighth day with no clear end in sight. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI
JIA) fell 159.71 points, or 1.1%, to 14,776.53, off an intraday low of 14,773.47. The S&P 500 Index (SNC:SPX) finished the day down 20.67 points, or 1.2%, at 1,655.45, near its intraday low of 1,655.03. The Nasdaq Composite Index (NASDAQ:COMP) declined 75.54 points, or 2%, to close at 3,694.83, near its session low of 3,694.15. Since the shutdown started on Oct. 1, the Dow industrials are off by 2.3%, the S&P 500 is down 1.6%, and the Nasdaq is off by 2%
