No September job report if shutdown persists: BLS
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) – The unemployment report for September will not be released if the government remains shut down, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said Tuesday. In a statement posted on its website, the agency said that during the shutdown period, it will not collect data or issue reports. The weekly jobless claims data will be released because the agency that prepares it is separately funded. Joseph Lavorgna, chief U.S. economist for Deutsche Bank, said that a survey of private employers put out monthly by the payroll company ADP, to be released Wednesday, will take on added significance as a forecasting tool.
