Imperial Metals Reports Copper and Gold Production Increases

Imperial Metals Corporation Update on Red Chris Mine
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Imperial Metals Corporation (“Imperial”) (TSX:III) shares a crucial update regarding ongoing developments at the Red Chris mine, particularly concerning the two recent fall of ground incidents affecting operations.
Use of Advanced Technology for Safety Assessments
In partnership with Newmont, the mine operator, specialized drones have been deployed to evaluate the geotechnical conditions underground. These drones are assisting in assessing the debris, which is estimated to be around 20 to 30 meters long and 7 to 8 meters high. Importantly, the refuge chambers, where workers are sheltered, are stable and well-ventilated, providing safety for those involved.
Newmont has also introduced a remote-controlled scoop from the vicinity, aiming to expedite the removal of debris and restore access to the mine. Teams are diligently working to re-establish communication with personnel through a specialized communication system.
Worker Safety and Production Status
All personnel are confirmed to be safely utilizing a MineARC refuge chamber that accommodates up to 16 individuals, with additional chambers available nearby. Operations at Red Chris mine are currently on hold to prioritize rescue efforts and communication restoration.
Imperial has reported its quarterly production figures for copper and gold at the Red Chris mine for the end of June 2025. The total production for the period reached 23.479 million pounds of copper and 22,624 ounces of gold, marking an improvement from the previous year’s figures of 20.731 million pounds of copper and 12,531 ounces of gold.
Notable Production Increase
During the second quarter of 2025, the mine's copper production witnessed a remarkable increase of 13% in comparison to the same quarter in 2024. This growth is attributed to a significant rise in copper grades, which increased by 17% (0.547% versus 0.466%), though this was slightly offset by a minor decrease in throughput. Astonishingly, gold production surged by 81%, reflecting improved grades and recovery metrics.
For the first half of 2025, copper production surged by 25%, bolstered by enhanced copper grades, while gold production saw a whopping increase of 101% owing to better recovery and gold grades.
Enhanced Operations and Future Studies
The Red Chris Block Cave Feasibility Study continues to advance, alongside permitting processes and initial underground development efforts. As of June 30, 2025, roughly 11,727 meters of total development have been finalized, covering both the Nagha and conveyor declines, a promising sign for upcoming operations.
