FLSmidth Secures Major Flotation Technology Contract for Iron Ore

FLSmidth Secures Major Flotation Technology Contract for Iron Ore
A leading Indian miner and steel producer has made a significant decision by selecting FLSmidth & Co. A/S to deliver a comprehensive flotation technology package for their state-of-the-art iron ore beneficiation plant. This facility is poised to be among the largest and most efficient of its kind globally, taking domestic, low-grade iron ore and transforming it into one of the purest, highest-grade products available worldwide.
FLSmidth’s approach involved extensive laboratory and pilot testing to develop a beneficiation flowsheet that guarantees optimal metallurgical performance alongside operational flexibility. To achieve this, innovative and established flotation technologies were carefully reviewed, resulting in the choice of FLS nextSTEP™ flotation cells. This advanced circuit will feature mechanical and process condition monitoring capabilities, along with enhanced process control. Additionally, the entire system incorporates KREBS millMAX pumps for effective froth and slurry transportation.
This contract marks the third successive order from this client in a short span of six months. The iron ore that will feed their flotation facility is sourced from 18 of the world’s leading vertical tower mills, also ordered from FLSmidth at the start of 2025. These mills will function in tandem with two of the globe's largest high-pressure grinding rolls (HPGRs), acquired from FLSmidth in the preceding quarter, as well as 30 KREBS UMD pumps and 18 KREBS gMAX hydrocyclones, fulfilling the needs for secondary and tertiary grinding processes.
The full installation and commissioning of FLS technologies are scheduled for completion during 2026 and 2027. Mikko Keto, CEO of FLSmidth, expressed pride in the company's selection, emphasizing the significance of the partnership and customer relations. The deployment of these flotation technologies, alongside FLSmidth's HPGRs and tower mills, is expected to greatly enhance performance while significantly reducing energy, water, and grinding media consumption, thus fostering greater profitability.
While the financial specifics of the contract remain undisclosed, FLSmidth continues to reinforce its position as a market leader in delivering innovative and sustainable technology solutions to the mining and cement sectors.
