Empowering Youth: 2026 Arctic Expedition Applications Open Now

Applications Open for the 2026 Arctic Expedition by SOI
The challenges our planet faces are indeed immense, yet the potential within our youth is equally boundless. That’s why the Students on Ice Foundation (SOI) is thrilled to announce that applications for its exciting 2026 expedition season are now live, marking our return to the Arctic!
An Unforgettable Adventure Awaits
If you have ever yearned to experience a life-changing expedition, this is your moment! Imagine connecting with like-minded youth aged 14-35 from various corners of the globe as you navigate the stunning Arctic landscapes surrounded by glaciers, fjords, and unique communities.
Inspiring Messages from SOI's Founder
“We are genuinely excited to welcome a fresh group of young leaders during this season’s adventures, which align with the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development,” shares Geoff Green, SOI's Founder and President. “Our expedition program is deeply rooted in science, Traditional Knowledge, and meaningful connections, aimed at inspiring the next generation to take on leadership roles and become stewards of a sustainable future.”
Experience, Learn, and Make Connections
SOI expeditions provide a unique platform for youth to learn directly from scientists, Indigenous Elders, and industry experts. Participants will gain firsthand insights into pressing environmental challenges while engaging in valuable cultural exchanges. You will explore critical themes such as climate change, healthy ecosystems, sustainable communities, and the future of the Arctic.
“An expedition transcends a traditional trip; it’s a transformative educational experience,” explains Green. “Youth will leave with a profound understanding of Arctic ecosystems and the communities reliant on them. Moreover, they will return home equipped with the skills, confidence, and networks to create a positive impact within their communities and beyond.”
A New Vessel for a New Era
For the 2026 season, SOI is excited to introduce a new, highly capable, ice-strengthened expedition vessel, the MV Ocean Nova. This ship is recognized for its fuel-efficient design, significantly reducing the expedition's environmental footprint. Its compact and nimble structure permits easy access to remote coves and fjords, placing participants closer to the true essence of the Arctic.
How to Apply
Full scholarships are available, and self-funded participants are warmly welcomed; we encourage early applications to secure your position! Interested youth need only submit a single application to be considered for all expeditions in 2026. Selected individuals will be matched with an expedition that aligns best with their interests. The application deadline is December 4, 2025. Don’t miss out, apply today at soifoundation.org.
