Patient care and access at Adena Health continue to thrive thanks to its strong graduate medical education program. Recently, three members of the residency class have chosen to stay with the health system, marking the beginning of their professional careers as they transition from students to valued physicians.
Graduates Celebrate New Beginnings
During a lively graduation ceremony for a total of 15 residents, Jeff Graham, the president and CEO of Adena, took a moment to celebrate the significant achievements of the graduating class. He emphasized the lasting bond they share with the institution, stating, "No matter where you choose to go, you'll always have a home here at Adena." For three standout graduates, this home will remain in the region.

The individuals continuing their journey with Adena include:

Understanding the Role of Resident Physicians
Resident physicians are fully credentialed doctors engaged in specialized training after earning their medical degrees. At Adena, residents receive comprehensive hands-on experience through diverse residency programs, which include family medicine, internal medicine, and psychiatry. Notably, they also participate in the primary care sports medicine fellowship.
A Strong Community of Support
Throughout the years, many residents have pointed to Adena's supportive learning environment, outstanding mentorship, and strong sense of community as key factors contributing to their decision to stay. With the addition of these three new physicians, a total of 10 doctors from the last four residency classes have joined Adena's dedicated medical staff.
Grateful Words from New Residents
Reflecting on their experiences, Dr. Alfman expressed appreciation for the unwavering support received from faculty and staff at Adena. He remarked, "The guidance, expertise, and encouragement of the educators here have been pivotal in shaping our roles as physicians. They challenged us constantly and inspired us to pursue excellence in every aspect of medicine. Not only did they share considerable knowledge, but they also taught us the compassion and resilience that are vital in serving our patients effectively."
Growth of the Residency Program
Since its inaugural class of six residents in 2012, Adena's residency program has gained both size and prestige. The incoming resident class scheduled for July will include 16 new physicians and one fellow, hailing from various locations across the country, including states like California, Florida, Texas, and Puerto Rico.
