LUNGevity Foundation Offers New Research Opportunities for 2025

LUNGevity Foundation Announces New Research Awards for 2025

Exciting opportunities for lung cancer research funding are now available.

LUNGevity Foundation, a prominent organization dedicated to advancing lung cancer research, is thrilled to announce four Requests for Applications (RFAs) aimed at fostering growth within the lung cancer research community.

Dr. Upal Basu Roy, the executive director of LUNGevity Research, emphasized that the vitality of the research community is crucial for enhancing early detection and treatment of lung cancer. "Our awards are designed to meet the specific needs of those involved in lung cancer research, facilitating the development of a robust workforce dedicated to improving the lives of patients," he stated.

Focus Areas of the Research Awards

In 2025, LUNGevity will offer the following main awards designed to boost workforce development:

Career Development Awards (CDAs)

Celebrating their 13th year, the CDAs represent LUNGevity's flagship initiative. These awards are well-known for providing both financial aid and valuable networking opportunities for early-career researchers aiming to elevate their expertise.

Dr. Amy Moore, vice president of Global Engagement and Research Partnerships, commented on the urgency of supporting lung cancer research. "Despite being the leading cause of cancer deaths, lung cancer research receives a meager 6% of federal cancer research funding. LUNGevity's CDAs serve as a vital resource for upcoming researchers seeking to establish themselves in this critical field," she remarked.

The maximum funding offered through CDAs is $300,000 over three years.

Health Equity and Inclusiveness Research Fellow Awards

Introduced in 2021, this award underscores LUNGevity's commitment to equity and inclusivity in lung cancer research. With this initiative, LUNGevity aims to empower a diverse research workforce that reflects the needs of marginalized communities.

Recipients of this award can receive up to $100,000 over two years.

Veterans Affairs Research Scholar Awards

Recognizing that veterans face elevated risks for lung cancer, LUNGevity continues its support for veterans and associated healthcare initiatives. This award targets researchers committed to exploring lung cancer issues within the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Eligible scholars may receive awards of $100,000 over a two-year period.

ASTRO-LUNGevity Residents/Fellows in Radiation Oncology Seed Grants

For the fourth consecutive year, LUNGevity collaborates with the American Society for Radiation Oncology to nurture the research endeavors of residents and fellows interested in radiation oncology related to lung cancer.

This grant provides up to $50,000 for a one-year project.

Application Process for Research Awards

The deadline for submitting applications for the ASTRO-LUNGevity Residents/Fellows in Radiation Oncology Seed Grants is March 10, 2025. For all other awards, interested candidates must first submit a letter of intent by February 14, 2025. Detailed information about the application processes can be found on the LUNGevity website.

The recipients for these prestigious awards are expected to be announced in late summer 2025.
