LIFT Celebrates Major Lithium Recovery at Yellowknife Project
Li-FT Power Ltd. (TSX-V: LIFT, OTC Markets: LIFFF, Frankfurt: WS0) has some exciting news regarding its metallurgical activities at the Yellowknife Lithium Project. Through an extensive sampling program conducted in 2023 and 2024, which covered several spodumene deposits, the company achieved a promising metallurgical recovery of about 79%. This is an important milestone for Li-FT, showcasing their ability to produce a high-quality spodumene concentrate that averages 5.83% Li2O.
Details of the Metallurgical Program
The testing efforts were carried out in collaboration with SGS Canada Inc. in Ontario. Several techniques, including heavy liquid separation (HLS), dense media separation (DMS), and batch flotation, were applied to samples extracted from the Big East, Big West, Nite, Ki, Echo, Fi Main, Fi Southwest, and Hi pegmatites. This thorough methodology has enabled the company to assess how efficiently these processes extract lithium from the mineral rock.
Promising Results and Future Testing
CEO Francis MacDonald shared his excitement over the favorable results, stating, “These thorough metallurgical tests lay the groundwork for our upcoming Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) and demonstrate the effectiveness of our extraction methods.” The significance of these results stems in part from successful pilot-scale DMS tests, indicating that cost-effective separation methods are viable for the spodumene-rich pegmatite dikes designated for early mining operations.
In-Depth Metallurgical Analysis
The lithium content in the samples was carefully analyzed using sodium peroxide fusion digestion followed by inductively coupled plasma optical spectroscopy (ICP-OES). Data indicated that lithium concentrations in the pegmatite samples ranged from 0.86% to 1.46% Li2O, along with varying iron content. The average grade of the spodumene concentrate across multiple deposits confirms the strong potential of these mining locations.
Benefits of Lithium Recovery Techniques
Importantly, the pilot tests displayed global lithium recoveries that varied notably among the samples tested. The two-stage DMS yielded global recovery rates ranging from 49.9% to 60.4%, along with grades that are of significant interest. When combining DMS and flotation techniques, recoveries ranged from 81% to 87%, further demonstrating the effectiveness of the methodologies used.
Company Expansion and Future Opportunities
LIFT is making strides not just with the Yellowknife Lithium Project, but is also strategically positioned within the larger lithium market. With its flagship project located in the Northwest Territories, the company shows great potential for upcoming discoveries, particularly with three early-stage exploration properties in Quebec that hold significant promise for finding lithium pegmatites.
