Leadership Change at the Center for Community Investment
Center for Community Investment Leadership Transition
Today, the Center for Community Investment (CCI) has made notable strides forward in its leadership by announcing an important transition. As of January 21, 2025, Robin Hacke, the Founding Executive Director, will take on a Senior Fellow role. Omar Carrillo Tinajero, who has been an integral part of CCI and currently serves as the Director of Programs, will step into the role of Executive Director.
Since its inception, CCI has dedicated itself to empowering communities nationwide. Their work focuses on establishing investment systems that embody equity, enabling residents to achieve their full potential. With this new leadership, CCI aims to enhance its influence and drive systems change, aligning itself with those who are passionate about equity and community investments. This shift comes at a crucial time, and Carrillo Tinajero’s expertise will guide the organization as it embarks on this new chapter.
Robin Hacke expressed her confidence in Carrillo Tinajero, stating, “Omar's exceptional judgment and successful leadership make him the right choice to spearhead CCI into its next phase. I am thrilled to transition into a supportive role while continuing to mentor emerging community investment leaders.”
Having begun his journey with CCI in 2017 through the Connect Capital initiative, Carrillo Tinajero has led various innovative projects aimed at enhancing housing, climate resilience, and economic development. His commitment to equitable investment systems stems from a deep understanding of the structural challenges faced by communities, particularly those impacted by historical injustices. This experience will serve him well in his new position as Executive Director.
"I came to CCI to tackle the challenge of fostering equitable investment systems that prioritize those most affected by systemic issues," Carrillo Tinajero shared. He acknowledged Hacke's leadership, commending the cultivation of a movement that is ready to embrace transformative approaches within different communities.
Under Hacke’s guidance, CCI has seen remarkable growth, expanding from a small team to 16 staff members. The organization has successfully rolled out three leadership development programs and facilitated numerous national and local initiatives. More than 120 practitioners in community development and finance have participated in CCI’s programs, taking their skills and values back to their respective communities across the nation.
Going forward, Carrillo Tinajero will not only maintain CCI's current commitments but will also explore new initiatives focused on climate change and shared ownership models. Meanwhile, Hacke will remain at CCI as a Senior Fellow, continuing to influence and mentor both current participants and the broader network that CCI supports.
Monica Valdes Lupi, managing director of the Kresge Foundation’s Health Program, reflected on the transition, sharing, “We have seen CCI thrive under Robin's vision, and we look forward to seeing how Omar will lead this next chapter with intent and purpose.”
