Lactalis USA Invests $55 Million to Boost Feta Cheese Output

Lactalis USA's Strategic Expansion for Feta Cheese Production

Lactalis USA is set to make a significant investment in its operations to enhance the production capacity of Président Feta cheese. This move comes as feta cheese continues to rise in popularity among American consumers. With a $55 million investment earmarked for its Tulare facility, Lactalis is on track to establish the largest feta production line in the country.

Details of the Expansion Project

The upcoming manufacturing line will span 38,000 square feet, allowing Lactalis USA to substantially increase feta cheese production at both its Tulare and Belmont, Wisconsin locations. The expansion is projected to generate 20 new full-time positions in Tulare, coupled with approximately 100 temporary or contract roles during the construction phase. Construction is expected to occur between now and 2027, with the line anticipated to be partially operational soon. By 2027, Lactalis will have significantly advanced its U.S. feta production capabilities to meet both current and growing consumer demand.

Vision of Growth

Esteve Torrens, the CEO of Lactalis USA, shared insights on the company’s growth strategy: "We are expanding to increase our cheese production capacity at our facility. This investment into new jobs and expanding operations supports our local communities and demonstrates Lactalis’ long-term view for business success in the United States. This expansion helps us meet the growing demand for Président Feta cheese in the United States, which is good news for our retail customers and consumers who continue to choose Président Feta for cooking at home and creating new occasions to enjoy feta.”

Innovative Manufacturing Facility

The Tulare manufacturing site is recognized as one of Lactalis' most advanced facilities across the nation, equipped with the latest technologies from the Lactalis Group. The new production line has been designed to prioritize worker safety and well-being, incorporating features such as automated air flow control and a comprehensive ergonomic analysis. In addition to Président Feta, the Tulare facility also produces a variety of other products including Kraft® Parmesan, Knudsen® Cottage Cheese, and Kraft sweet whey powder.
