Transforming Justice for Indigenous Peoples
As you enter one of our Indigenous Justice Centres (IJCs), you are greeted with warmth and a sense of belonging, where Indigenous laws and protocols come to life. Here, the teachings of Elders and the spirit of today's leaders guide every initiative. It’s more than just a space; it's a movement aimed at reshaping justice for Indigenous people.
Seeking Accomplices for Change
The BC First Nations Justice Council (BCFNJC) is on a mission to transform the legal landscape through the expansion of IJCs throughout the region. By inviting individuals from diverse professional backgrounds – lawyers, resource support workers, administrators, and legal assistants – we seek accomplices who are ready to redefine their approach to law and support the healing and care of Indigenous communities.
Joining the Legal and Outreach Teams
As a member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in a system that has long marginalized Indigenous peoples. Our IJCs aim to foster healing and restorative justice, breaking away from punitive practices of the conventional legal framework. This is about embracing Indigenous laws and traditions to prioritize the wellbeing of individuals and their communities.
A Holistic Approach to Justice
Currently, there are nine operational IJCs across the province, each providing holistic support through collaborative legal and social resources. These centres aren't just places to seek legal assistance; they are community hubs where Indigenous clients can find comprehensive support through cultural and professional expertise. The focus is on ensuring that no one is lost in the minutiae of the judicial process.
Caring Beyond the Individual
Each decision made at our IJCs considers the larger web of relationships that exist within communities. When we assist an individual, we inherently serve their family and their cultural ties. Our IJC team, led by passionate directors, understands that every client's journey is intertwined with their heritage and community.
Expanding Opportunities for Engagement
BCFNJC is set to open six additional IJCs, bringing the total to 15 locations. This pivotal growth presents various employment opportunities that reflect our commitment to community restoration and justice. Positions vary from Administration roles to legal positions, all aimed at supporting individuals in their healing journeys.
Be Part of a Revolutionary Change
We aim to create a powerful network of justice partners who will guide and support this transformative journey. If you are passionate about being a part of a groundbreaking approach to justice that elevates Indigenous voices and traditions, we invite you to explore our numerous job openings and join our mission.
