IDOC Partners with Eyes On Eyecare for Comprehensive Optometrist Report
The annual report reveals growth ambitions, marketing gaps, and insights for practicing ODs.
In a significant collaboration, IDOC, a leader in supporting independent optometric practice owners, has partnered with Eyes On Eyecare to release a detailed report on the state of optometry for 2025. This report comes on the heels of a nationwide survey conducted in September 2025, providing valuable insights from 543 practicing optometrists across the U.S. and Canada.
The findings shed light on the key aspirations of optometrists, with 48.3% of those surveyed identifying "growing their business in their current location" as their primary goal for the next three years. However, a paradox emerges as 60.35% of respondents admitted to spending less than $500 on monthly marketing. Moreover, a significant 5.75% of participants did not track their marketing expenditures at all.
According to IDOC CEO Dave Brown, this disconnect highlights the challenges that independent practice owners face. "Optometrists exhibit a strong desire to expand their practices, yet many struggle with time and financial resources needed for effective marketing and everyday management tasks. IDOC's mission is to alleviate these burdens, enabling ODs to prioritize patient care and focus on practice growth," he explained.
Insights from the 2025 Optometrist Report
The report also recognized Alcon, a key partner of IDOC in the contact lens market, as the most favored contact lens provider by the surveyed optometrists. This emphasizes the solid vendor partnerships that IDOC fosters, which are pivotal in supporting the clinical and financial successes of its members.
Brown further stated, “Independent ODs form the backbone of IDOC, and collaborations with organizations like Eyes On Eyecare are instrumental in our efforts to support their success. We are committed to providing the necessary tools, insights, and community to ensure they thrive in a competitive environment.”
