ICOHS College Eases IT Career Entry for Veterans

ICOHS College Eases IT Career Entry for Veterans

Well, it ain't every day you hear about a place cutting through red tape for veterans. But here we are, with ICOHS College in San Diego stepping up to the plate with their VET TEC 2.0 program. It's like a breath of fresh air in an industry where vet benefits often seem as tangled as a plate of spaghetti. For those who've worn Uncle Sam's boots, this might just be your shot at a smooth transition into IT.

What's VET TEC 2.0 Anyway?

Picture this: you've served your time, and now you're ready to dive into an IT career. ICOHS College has been tapped as a provider of VET TEC 2.0 — which, by the way, is one of only a handful of options across the country. We're talking hands-on, no-faff bootcamps leading to CompTIA A+ and Network+ certifications.

"Veterans at ICOHS can enroll, train hands-on, and earn an industry credential without navigating their remaining GI Bill entitlement or jumping through extra hoops." — Kieu L. Vo, Executive Director at ICOHS College.

Turning Military Skills Into IT Savvy

No wrangling with the traditional VA education benefits here. This program's like a turbo charger, designed to get vets job-ready fast without needing those leftover GI Bill entitlements. Now, veterans who have already maxed out their VA education benefits can still take a crack at this VET TEC thing.

The Nuts and Bolts of the Programs

ICOHS is rolling out two big guns for this. First up is the CompTIA A+, the foundational badge for anyone wanting to dip their toes in IT waters. Then there's CompTIA Network+, for those eyeing network management roles. These aren't your average sit-in-the-classroom gigs; we're talking intense, practical bootcamps here.

Perks Without the Headaches

In this VET TEC arrangement, the VA picks up the tab, paying ICOHS directly. That means those eligible won't have to fuss over out-of-pocket payments. Plus, there's a monthly housing allowance and coverage for books and supplies. But, heads up folks, they've capped this at 4,000 veterans per year. Early applicants might just dodge the waitlist blues.

Eligibility and Getting Started

Curious if you make the cut? The main prerequisite is being a service member within 180 days of separation or a veteran discharged under conditions other than dishonorable. You've gotta have chalked up at least 36 months of active-duty service and be under the ripe old age of 62 when the VA gives its nod.

Before you get too excited, the VA's word is the law on who's eligible. Best bet? Hit up the VA website first. ICOHS is ready with open arms, but the VA call the shots initially.

The Bigger Picture at ICOHS College

ICOHS isn't a new kid on the block. They're a nonprofit doggedly committed to their community, offering courses in IT, AI, Health & Wellness, and Medical Billing. They've shown stick-to-itiveness in supporting military-connected folks, what with prior ventures into the Yellow Ribbon Program and MyCAA. This VET TEC 2.0 is another feather in their cap.

ICOHS College seems to be doing things right, slicing through the usual bureaucratic jungle. So vets out there, if you're fixin' to build an IT career, here’s one pathway that doesn’t require a degree in benefits bureaucracy to figure out. Who knows? This could be your ticket to the frontlines of technology.
