Celebrating 20 Years of Innovation
Hyundai Motor Group has marked a significant milestone, celebrating two decades of dedicated innovation at its California Proving Ground (CPG). This facility is a testament to the company’s unwavering commitment to enhancing safety, quality, design, and performance across their diverse lineup of vehicles, including those under the Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis brands.
A Legacy of Testing
Since its inauguration in 2005, over 5,000 vehicles have undergone comprehensive testing at the CPG, accumulating more than 20 million miles on various terrains. This extensive assessment helps guarantee that vehicles meet high standards for quality, durability, reliability, and safety.
Remarks from Leadership
During the anniversary celebration, Euisun Chung, the Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group, emphasized the importance of the CPG in the progress of the company. He highlighted, "The Hyundai Motor Group has made exceptional progress over the past 20 years, thanks in part to our California Proving Ground and the outstanding work of our team there. As we look to the future, we must focus on pioneering technologies such as AI, robotics, Software Defined Vehicles, electrification, and hydrogen technology. Facilities like the California Proving Ground will be critical to that innovation and will help shape the next 20 years of Hyundai Motor Group, turning challenges into opportunities and setbacks into successes."
State-of-the-Art Facility
The California Proving Ground spans over 4,500 acres in the Mojave Desert, making it an ideal location for vehicle evaluations. It includes a variety of tracks and facilities, including a 6.4-mile oval track and a 2-million square-foot Vehicle Dynamics Area (VDA), along with off-road evaluation loops, ensuring thorough testing under different conditions.
Vehicle Evaluation and Development
The dedicated team at the CPG conducts full vehicle evaluations, focusing on durability and development testing. Their activities cover a wide range from ride and handling assessments to Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) evaluations, as well as heat protection tests. Additionally, the CPG includes three fully equipped garages and a material-weathering facility designed to expedite the assessment of UV degradation in materials.
Commitment to Engineering Excellence
This facility is one of several operated by Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) in the U.S. promoting the design and engineering of Hyundai Motor Group vehicles. HATCI supports new model development for North American operations and global programs, underlining the group’s dedication to excellence and innovation in the automotive sector.
