An Invitation to Yogis

Event Details
We encourage everyone to join this collaborative effort. Registration is now open on the Freedom at The Mat website. The class is scheduled for the afternoon, making it a wonderful opportunity to embrace wellness and healing through movement.
A Vision Born from Personal Experience
This event is inspired by a heartfelt article written by FaTM Founder and Healing From Within Producer, Olivia F. Scott. Olivia's drive comes from her family's struggles with substance abuse, particularly her sister Sherilyn "Bootsie" Scott, who battled addiction for over 40 years. Olivia hopes to cultivate empathy and understanding, emphasizing that each person's journey toward healing is unique.
Supporting Essential Community Services
Grace House of Memphis plays a crucial role in the fight against substance abuse. Since its founding in 1976, it has offered vital long-term and outpatient treatment services for women facing the challenges of addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. Executive Director Karen Morgan expressed her gratitude for the ongoing support from Freedom at The Mat, highlighting that all event proceeds will benefit The Kitty Turner Fund, which assists women on their recovery journey without family support.
Statistics Reflecting a Growing Need
The rising statistics surrounding substance abuse are concerning. Reports show a significant increase in outpatient visits for drug overdoses in Tennessee, with numbers rising over the years. This data played a role in the decision to partner with Grace House, as they have consistently advocated for healing and understanding within the community.
Yoga as a Tool for Healing
Olivia highlights the transformative power of yoga, which can heal both the heart and mind. In light of the ongoing epidemic, coming together through yoga can act as a powerful catalyst for building connections and support within the community.
