Fundamental Advisors Launches MorningSky Power
A New Platform Established to Advance Renewable Energy and Storage Solutions
Fundamental Advisors, an alternative asset management firm, has proudly announced the launch of MorningSky Power, a groundbreaking platform designed to develop and manage utility-scale solar and battery storage projects throughout the United States. This initiative marks an exciting evolution in the renewable energy sector.
MorningSky will primarily operate from its headquarters in Asheville, North Carolina, and aims to impact 27 states nationwide. The new platform is set to showcase a remarkable portfolio that includes 117 development projects, collectively targeting an impressive capacity of around 20 gigawatts (GW) of solar and battery storage capacity.
This newly formed entity positions itself as both a developer and operator of utility-scale renewable energy solutions. By leveraging strong industry partnerships and extensive technical expertise, MorningSky seeks to enhance the reliability and accessibility of power across the nation. The focus will be on advancing priority projects through critical stages such as development, permitting, interconnection, and financial backing.
MorningSky's launch comes with a strategic asset acquisition from Pine Gate Renewables, LLC, encompassing the company’s solar development assets. As part of this transition, the launch also includes noteworthy transactions, involving the sale of Sunstone Power, a 1.2-gigawatt solar and battery storage project. An additional component of the strategic move is Pine Gate's Operations and Maintenance business. In total, Fundamental Advisors anticipates receiving approximately $88 million from these sales.
Laurence Gottlieb, Chairman and CEO of Fundamental Advisors, expressed his optimism, stating, "The launch of MorningSky reflects our commitment to disciplined, scalable development at a moment when the nation's power demands are rising significantly. Building a focused platform with the expertise and flexibility to develop high-quality projects enables us to deliver essential renewable power for communities and the broader economy. It is an exciting time to invest in renewables as we strive to meet the growing energy demands of our country."
Jon Saxon, CEO of MorningSky Power, added, "With the creation of MorningSky, our aim is to facilitate the advancement of important projects into late-stage development, thereby securing dependable power capacity at a large scale. The Sunstone sale underlines the quality of our portfolio and the increasing demand for strategically positioned energy assets throughout the United States. As power needs soar to unprecedented levels, we believe the market for strategic solar assets will continue its upward trajectory, as more businesses recognize the benefits of securing reliable energy sources directly from the market."
