SOI expeditions provide a unique platform for youth to learn directly from scientists, Indigenous Elders, and industry experts. Participants will gain firsthand insights into pressing environmental challenges while engaging in valuable cultural exchanges. You will explore critical themes such as climate change, healthy ecosystems, sustainable communities, and the future of the Arctic.

A New Vessel for a New Era
For the 2026 season, SOI is excited to introduce a new, highly capable, ice-strengthened expedition vessel, the MV Ocean Nova. This ship is recognized for its fuel-efficient design, significantly reducing the expedition's environmental footprint. Its compact and nimble structure permits easy access to remote coves and fjords, placing participants closer to the true essence of the Arctic.

Full scholarships are available, and self-funded participants are warmly welcomed; we encourage early applications to secure your position! Interested youth need only submit a single application to be considered for all expeditions in 2026. Selected individuals will be matched with an expedition that aligns best with their interests. About the Students on Ice Foundation
For over 25 years, Students on Ice has transformed young people's perspectives through adventurous journeys to the Polar Regions and beyond. These expeditions unite youth and educators from diverse backgrounds to collaboratively tackle significant global challenges.
Since the year 2000, more than 4,500 youth and educators from 53 countries have ventured with SOI. In the process, they have forged lifelong friendships and connections, developed invaluable skills, and taken on inspired action in their communities. Many alumni have risen as leaders in their fields, embodying the lessons gleaned from their expeditions. Together, they comprise a global network committed to fostering healthy communities and a sustainable future.
