After almost three decades served behind bars, she steps onto the stage to impart her powerful narrative of trauma, resilience, and transformation in the world premiere of Found Suitable, directed and produced by Anne Kenny.
"For a long time, I internalized messages that said I was unworthy," Bleu shares. "It took me a while to awaken to the realization that it's up to me to define my own worth." This insight has resonated deeply with many, as she weaves a tapestry of words that encapsulate her experiences.
Bleu Inkk's Journey of Transformation
Raised in a challenging environment, Bleu (formerly known as April Atkins) turned to writing as a means of survival. While incarcerated, she embraced her identity as Bleu Inkk, channeling her pain into poetry, plays, and rap, providing a voice for herself and others who feel voiceless.
Bleu established the "Poetry Café," aimed at helping fellow incarcerated individuals articulate their thoughts and emotions, seeking to uplift and empower them. Since her release in 2017, she has made significant strides in her career as a transformational coach, motivational speaker, and correctional consultant, leading workshops that foster personal growth and healing. Her involvement with organizations dedicated to social change, like Homeboy Industries, showcases her unwavering commitment to inspiring positive transformations.
