This unique campaign will take a group of 20 remarkable individuals—including prostate cancer survivors, caregivers, and advocates—to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. This climb, scheduled for September to coincide with National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, symbolizes hope, survivorship, and progress in the fight against this devastating disease.
Leading the charge is Courtney Bugler, the CEO of ZERO and a courageous 19-year cancer survivor. With her experience and determination, she highlights the campaign's importance in raising awareness about early detection and the crucial need for initiatives aimed at reducing the alarming prostate cancer death toll, which claims a man’s life every 15 minutes in the U.S.
"Currently, over 300,000 men are projected to receive a prostate cancer diagnosis this year. Such staggering numbers necessitate immediate, bold action to combat this health crisis," stated Bugler. She emphasizes that the Peaks Challenge embodies more than the physical climb; it represents a movement toward increasing visibility and understanding of prostate cancer, ultimately aiming to save lives.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in American men besides skin cancer, making it the second leading cause of cancer-related fatalities in men. The crisis is particularly acute for Veterans, who face higher diagnosis rates, and for Black men, who are substantially more likely to be diagnosed and to die from this illness. Despite the grim statistics, the situation is not hopeless—the key to survival often rests in early detection.

An Air Force Veteran from Maryland, Eric Morrow, is climbing to challenge the misconception that a prostate cancer diagnosis means life has ended. Diagnosed at 49, Eric is committed to advocating for early detection to empower other men to reclaim their futures.
Leo Nunes
Hailing from Colorado Springs, Leo Nunes has transformed his battle with prostate cancer into a broader mission. As a healthcare leader and ZERO advocate, Leo strives to enhance affordability and access to care. He views the Kilimanjaro climb as a pivotal message to men worldwide—that a prostate cancer diagnosis is not equivalent to a death sentence.
Emily Faurote
From Indiana, pediatric occupational therapist Emily Faurote is climbing in honor of her father, who was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer last year. Emily hopes that this journey can serve as a catalyst for families to prioritize early screenings, especially for those with a family history of the disease. She reflects, "If we had known then what we know now, we could’ve caught his cancer before it spread."
