Electra Files Financial Reports for Third Quarter 2025
Electra Battery Materials Corporation (NASDAQ: ELBM; TSX-V: ELBM), prevalent in the lithium-ion battery supply chain, has proudly announced the filing of its financial results for the recently concluded third quarter. This report highlights pivotal activities undertaken by the company as it works diligently on its cobalt sulfate refinery project in Ontario.
Significant Progress in Third Quarter
Throughout the third quarter, Electra demonstrated substantial momentum in developing a resilient battery materials supply chain across North America. The range of financial achievements, combined with strategic initiatives such as feedstock testing in both Ontario and Idaho, reinforces the vital role that domestic mineral assets play while actively working to lessen reliance on overseas sources for critical battery materials.
Highlights of Achievements
Ontario's Commitment of US$13 Million: On September 12, Electra solidified its commitments by signing a term sheet with the Ontario government aimed at advancing its cobalt refinery. This hefty investment adds to earlier governmental backing, which encompasses US$20 million from the U.S. Department of Defense and C$20 million (US$15 million) from the Canadian government, totaling an impressive US$48 million in support.
Successful Financing Round: In August, Electra successfully closed a US$34.5 million financing as part of a broader balance sheet restructuring effort which has effectively reduced its debt to around US$28 million. This capital will ensure the remaining financial needs for progressing the construction of the refinery. These transactions were completed post quarter end, showcasing robust market confidence in Electra’s enduring strategy and promoting the continuation of construction and commissioning work.
Strengthening the Board: Electra has enhanced its Board of Directors with key appointments, bringing in leaders with vast experience in the energy and mining industries. These valuable additions, including David Stetson, Gerard Hueber, and Jody Thomas, provide essential knowledge and oversight as Electra advances toward execution.
Testing of North American Feedstock: In a bid to support its long-term supply chain strategy, Electra began metallurgical testing of cobalt feedstock throughout the quarter. The testing, originating from its Iron Creek project in Idaho and historic operations in the Cobalt Camp, is crucial for validating the compatibility of local resources for refinery processing.
Post-Quarter Achievements
Advancements in U.S. Cobalt-Copper Projects: In October, Electra made headway at its Iron Creek cobalt-copper project, underscoring the continuous geological evaluation and modeling work to unlock future potentials and solidify the North American supply chain.
New VP of Projects & Engineering: Announcing the appointment of Paolo Toscano as Vice President of Projects and Engineering, Electra ensures expert leadership for the construction and commissioning of its cobalt sulfate refinery in Ontario. This move reflects Electra’s dedication to responsible execution.
Construction Resumed at Refinery Site: With an arranged funding package of US$82 million, Electra has reinitiated construction at its cobalt refinery. This follow-up to its initial summer initiatives highlights a proactive approach towards completing the project.
Marty Rendall, CFO of Electra, expressed, “Our third quarter achievement and future initiatives underscore the determination of our team and our unwavering commitment to our goals. We are strategically positioned for success as we focus on creating value and achieving outcomes in North America’s critical minerals landscape.”
By the end of September 2025, Electra’s cash balance stood at C$3 million. Following the quarter, the successful completion of a US$34.5 million equity financing and a restructuring of its balance sheet position the company favorably, believing strongly in its ability to finish constructing and commissioning the cobalt sulfate refinery in Ontario.
