Kramer's journey into cardiology began during a summer scholarship in high school, leading him to earn his medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. Following that, he completed his residency and served as chief resident for internal medicine, in addition to his cardiology fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
He later took on his first role as a faculty member at Allegheny General Hospital before moving to MCP/Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, where he also directed the cardiology fellowship program. In 1999, he transitioned to the University of Virginia School of Medicine, becoming the chief of the Cardiovascular Division in 2019.
Research Contributions in Cardiovascular Imaging
Kramer's primary research focus has been on cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging, where he has made significant contributions to both translational and clinical studies. His innovative work in this area was recognized with a Gold Medal award from the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance in 2015, underscoring his impact on the advancement of CMR.
