Desert Financial Foundation Awards $198,000 in Scholarships
Sixty-two students receive college scholarships for community service, perseverance and a passion for helping others.
Desert Financial Foundation recently awarded scholarships to 62 exemplary students throughout Arizona, with a total amount reaching $198,000. This initiative took place during a celebration at Chateau Luxe, recognizing the hard work and dedication these individuals showcased in both their academic and volunteer efforts.
The scholarships were granted based on several core values: a commitment to giving back to the community, resilience in pursuing educational goals, and a desire to create a better future. The foundation encourages students to apply for various scholarship categories tailored to different demographic needs. These include Community Service Scholarships for high school seniors volunteering in their communities, Adult Learners Scholarships for those aged 25 and over seeking further education, and Passion to Help Scholarships for the dependents of Desert Financial employees.
Since the inception of the scholarship program in 2015, Desert Financial Foundation has invested over $1.7 million in educational scholarships, helping numerous students achieve their dreams and build a brighter future.

Impact of Community Service Scholarships
A significant portion of the scholarships was allocated to Community Service Scholarships, amounting to $84,000, directed towards 26 high school seniors. Each of these outstanding recipients completed a minimum of 50 hours of community service in 2024, maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0, demonstrated financial need, and are set to enroll in an Arizona college or university this upcoming Fall.
Andrew Clough, one of the scholarship winners, shared his experience, stating, "My experience volunteering has made me a more empathetic, creative, and attentive person, which will carry over to all aspects of my future." Clough noted his extensive volunteering efforts at Billy's Place, an organization focused on grief support for children, a mission close to his heart following a family tragedy.
The 2025 Community Service Scholarship recipients collectively contributed over 4,500 hours of service in the past year, showcasing the profound impact these students make on their communities.
Support for Adult Learners
In addition to high school seniors, Desert Financial Foundation extended its support through Adult Learners Scholarships, distributing a total of $96,000 among 30 adults seeking higher education. This scholarship is aimed at adults who are committed to improving their futures academically, demonstrating the foundation’s dedication to lifelong learning.
Each of the adult scholarship recipients has a unique story, such as Francisco Lagarda Duarte, who aspires to earn a degree in mechanical engineering. He expressed the meaningful impact of his journey, stating, "I know that it is going to take hard work and dedication, but I am excited to take the journey to gain the experience and knowledge to make transportation safe."
Recognizing Passion to Help
Six Passion to Help Scholarships were also awarded, with a combined total of $18,000. These scholarships support dependents of Desert Financial employees who have also demonstrated a commitment to community service through extensive volunteer work. Each recipient is required to complete at least 50 hours of community service, highlighting the foundation's value of giving back.
As part of the celebration, each scholarship recipient received a thoughtful gift basket containing essential educational supplies. Among the items were Sony headphones, Hydro Flask water bottles, Uber gift cards, snacks, and academic tools to assist in their educational journey.
