After seeing the urgent need for storage solutions highlighted on a local news station, the team at UNITS® knew they had to act. They quickly reached out to Desiree Jennings, the Director for Toys for Tots in Sarasota County, to learn more about how they could contribute to the organization’s mission. It became clear that Toys for Tots was grappling with a lack of both temporary and long-term storage capacities essential for their operations during the busy holiday season and throughout the year.
Addressing Storage Shortages
"Upon meeting Desiree, we quickly understood the seriousness of their storage challenges," said Zach Easton, co-owner of UNITS® Moving and Portable Storage of Southwest Florida. "Without sufficient storage, it’s incredibly challenging to organize and distribute the thousands of toys that bring happiness to countless local families each year.”
Creating a Storage Solution
To help alleviate this issue, Zach and his business partner Albert devised a plan to donate several portable storage units. The generous contributions include:
- Seven UNITS® at Eagles in Sarasota for holiday toy distribution.
- Two UNITS® at the Elks Lodge in Venice for holiday distribution.
- One UNIT® at American Legion in North Port for holiday distribution.
- One UNIT® at American Legion in North Port for year-round storage.
- Two UNITS® at the Palmetto warehouse for year-round storage.
These donations aim to ensure that toys are not only stored safely but can also be organized and distributed effectively, benefiting families throughout Sarasota County.
Continuing the Fight Against Storage Challenges
Despite the generosity displayed, Toys for Tots of Sarasota still faces challenges. They are in dire need of over 5,000 square feet of donated warehouse space to serve as an effective sorting and receiving hub for the upcoming Toys for Tots season. This operational period spans from September through December each year.
