Comerica Bank and Griffins Join Forces to Tackle Hunger

Comerica and Grand Rapids Griffins Join Forces Again for Kids' Food Basket

Comerica Bank and the Grand Rapids Griffins have teamed up once more to tackle an important issue—childhood hunger. Their latest initiative benefits the Kids' Food Basket (KFB), aiming to raise awareness and collect non-perishable food items through a four-week food drive at select banking centers.

How You Can Contribute

From now until October 17, community members are invited to bring in designated non-perishable food items to participating Comerica banking centers. For every item donated, you'll receive valuable ticket vouchers for upcoming Griffins home games in the 2024-25 season at Van Andel Arena. Donors will earn one voucher for every five items donated, with a limit of four vouchers for up to 20 items.

Success of Last Year's Initiative

The last food drive was incredibly successful, resulting in over 3,300 items donated to KFB, alongside $15,000 in charitable contributions from Comerica. This year, the goal is to build on that success and further address food insecurity in our local communities.

Getting the Community Involved

Debra Van Hevele, Senior Vice President and Retail Regional Director at Comerica Bank, highlighted the significance of such community partnerships. She said, "With the success of last season's food drive partnership with the Griffins, we wanted to continue this relationship and help reduce food insecurity in our communities." There’s a strong community spirit here, and local fans are encouraged to come together, donate generously, and help make a real difference in the lives of children.

Suggested Donations

KFB’s Wish List includes crucial non-perishable food items like fruit cups, meat sticks, cheese crackers, pudding cups, and more. Your donations are essential in helping KFB provide nutritious meals to children in need.

Celebrating Local Contributions

As a thank you for the support, Comerica Bank and the Griffins will reveal the total amount of food collected during the second home game of the season. Fans can enjoy the game, knowing that their contributions have significantly impacted the fight against hunger.

Kids' Food Basket Overview

For many years, Kids' Food Basket has been dedicated to ensuring that thousands of children receive nutritious meals. They provide about 10,000 meals each weekday to schools in four different counties. The remarkable impact they have on the communities they serve is a testament to what can be accomplished through dedicated partnerships.

Continuing the Tradition

This year, Comerica Bank proudly marks its 175-year legacy of community service, having been founded in Detroit in 1849. The bank is committed to empowering local communities by providing access to financial resources and opportunities that can change lives. Partnering with KFB exemplifies this commitment, offering essential support to those in need and creating pathways for brighter futures.

What’s Next

As Comerica pushes forward with its mission to support local initiatives, the bank remains devoted to enriching lives throughout Michigan. Collaborations with the Grand Rapids Griffins and Kids' Food Basket showcase the significant impact community partnerships can have in addressing vital issues like hunger.
