Registering their commitment, this collaboration has evolved over four years, initiated in 2021, and remains focused on tackling the challenges smallholders confront, particularly concerning deforestation and economic sustainability.
The Subulussalam Smallholders Hub Initiative
At the core of this partnership lies the Subulussalam Smallholders Hub, a community-driven initiative designed to equip local smallholders and Village Extension Officers (VEOs) with essential training in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and NDPE (No Deforestation, No Peat, No Exploitation) principles. In the program's next phase, the top 20 performing VEOs will receive advanced retraining to help them align with Indonesia's ISPO certification, which incorporates innovative methods like home composting to decrease the dependency on chemical fertilizers.
With the renewal of the partnership in 2025, the initiative aims to reach an additional 500 smallholders and 20 VEOs through advanced training. This expansion will elevate the total reach to over 2,000 smallholders and 40 VEOs equipped with enhanced skills.
