Celebrating Innovation: Metal Supermarkets' Metal My Way Contest

Metal Supermarkets Announces Winners of Prestigious Competition

Hundreds of entries received from talented welders, fabricators, metalworkers, and artists

Metal Supermarkets, recognized as the world's largest supplier of small-quantity metals, has declared the winners of this year's Metal My Way contest, celebrating creativity and skill in metalworking.

This year, the competition attracted over 830 submissions from various talented individuals across multiple countries. Participants showcased projects that ranged from artistic installations to practical engineering feats, highlighting the diverse talents present in the metalworking community.

The grand prize was awarded to Cindy Chinn for her stunning piece titled 'The Peacock'. This intricate sculpture took a year to complete and features a vibrant design crafted from copper sheets against a sturdy framework made of rebar and pipe. The legs and head were created using fabricated mild steel, while the wings were constructed from delicate copper rods and tubing.

Alongside the grand prize, several category winners were awarded. The Best Vehicle Project went to James Frankland, who built a 'Homemade Submarine'. James used materials purchased from Metal Supermarkets to realize his childhood dream, which took him six years to complete. His submarine is capable of depths of up to 100 meters, exemplifying the combination of ingenuity and technical skill in its design.

Nancy Bole won the Best Artistic and Design Project for her piece titled 'The Indian', which reflects her deep appreciation for the Cherokee and Cree cultures. What began as a personal project turned into a detailed craftsmanship journey, employing advanced metalworking techniques over six months.

The Best Furniture and Home Project was awarded to Deborah Mitchell for her striking 'Security Doors'. Deborah invested over 100 hours into developing the project, which incorporated brushed copper sheeting and various elements of steel, showcasing both artistry and functionality in metalwork.

Keith Broomfield’s project, '4 Cylinder Hot Air Engine', garnered the Best Industrial or Shop Project title. With a background in steam technology, Keith spent five years engineering a unique four-cylinder configuration, highlighting his detailed process of welding and material selection.

Lastly, Isaiah Chevalier received the award for the Best Knife Project with his 'Snake Head Dagger'. This intricate design showcased the incredible potential of layered steel, refining the process of forging and metal shaping into a beautiful and functional piece.

The winners were chosen based on criteria including complexity, detail, creativity, craftsmanship, and the innovative use of metal. This year's jury included members from Metal Supermarkets’ corporate staff.

Stephen Schober, President and CEO of Metal Supermarkets, expressed his admiration for the participants, acknowledging the ongoing demand for skilled trade workers and the inspiring talent evident among the contestants. The involvement of many entrants demonstrates the flourishing community of metal enthusiasts across various regions.
