Sequoia Legacy Tree Replacement Project
Visit Visalia, in collaboration with Arts Visalia and Visalia Heritage, is excited to announce a call for proposals. This opportunity invites talented artists and design teams to create a site-specific public art installation that will serve as a tribute to the Sequoia Legacy Tree, a significant community symbol for nearly a century.
Project Overview
The goal of this project is to replace the community's cherished Sequoia Legacy Tree with a new public art piece. This installation aims to celebrate Visalia’s rich history and its connection to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, emphasizing the importance of nature and cultural heritage.
The Symbolic Space
The original Sequoia Tree was graciously donated almost a century ago. Its removal creates a symbolic opportunity for a fresh, transformative installation within a small parklet situated on the US Post Office property. This area spans roughly 3,885 square feet and features a circular walking path. The design will reflect the approximate size of the base of the famous General Sherman Tree.

Visalia has a profound connection to the preservation of Sequoia National Park. Artists responding to this call are encouraged to propose concepts that reflect the area's local history, demonstrate ecological consciousness, and engage the public in meaningful interaction.
