Golden Milestone: 50 Years of CCC
It's hard to believe, but the California Conservation Corps (CCC) has hit the big five-zero. That’s half a century of shaping both landscapes and young folks’ futures. They've been digging in the dirt and forging paths to help out in ways that go beyond just saving the environment. It all kicks off with a Golden State Bus Tour sweeping through the likes of San Diego and Los Angeles, right up until the grand finale in Sacramento.
Roots of the Corps
Established back in 1976, the CCC's mission was to take fresh-faced young adults, put some tools in their hands, and turn them into environmental stewards and reliable workers. With over 138,000 of them having gone through the program, it’s clear they're getting more than just a certificate. They're leaving with a new lease on life, fresh perspectives, and the chops to build a career in conservation.

Keeping 'Em Engaged: The Bus Tour
Throughout the state, this bus tour is as much about the stories as it is about the destinations. Stops in San Diego, Los Angeles, even Chico, will host events where folks can rub elbows with Corpsmembers and see the impact of their sweat firsthand. Dylan Rawley, a current Corpsmember, noted, “Five, 10, 20 years later, people will walk the trails we built and say, 'We did that.'” It's about leaving a mark, and for the CCC, that's both literal and figurative.
The Final Lap: Sacramento Celebration
The tour ends with a bang at the California Natural Resources Agency headquarters, where alumni, officials, and stakeholders will gather to commemorate the program’s widespread impact. This is where the past, present, and future of the CCC come together, showcasing how this ambitious program has been essential in wildfire prevention, habitat restoration, and more.

As California Secretary for Natural Resources, Wade Crowfoot, proudly highlights, “The Corps represents the future we're all building toward.”
