Ben Kingsley Embraces Cultural Role for Uzbekistan
Oscar-winning actor Sir Ben Kingsley has recently embarked on an exciting new journey, taking on the role of host and narrator for a series of ten short documentaries. These films have been produced for the newly established Center for Islamic Civilization, which is designed to celebrate and share the rich cultural and historical heritage of Uzbekistan.
Highlights of the New Center
The Center for Islamic Civilization, situated in Tashkent, has garnered significant attention both nationally and internationally. Initiated under the guidance of Uzbekistan's President, the Center serves as a cultural and educational landmark. During a visit, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the Center's purpose: to foster respect for the wisdom of past scholars while providing spiritual inspiration to visitors.
A Journey Through History
In the documentary series titled 'Whisper of Wisdom', Kingsley pays tribute to great intellectuals from Uzbekistan, describing it as the birthplace of extraordinary minds. Figures such as Mirzo Ulugbek, Al-Khwarizmi, and Avicenna are highlighted for their monumental contributions to science, philosophy, and literature.
"We reveal to you the history of those who inspired the world and formed the Islamic civilization - the homeland of great scientists: Uzbekistan. This is a unique place where the heritage of great scientists of the past is studied and preserved," Kingsley states.
Bridging Cultures and Generations
These films aim to present Uzbekistan's historical legacy using modern multimedia techniques. The content is especially curated for a younger audience, making the importance of Central Asia’s contributions to global civilization more relatable and engaging. The films will be distributed through major international networks such as Euronews, CNN, and BBC World.
Firdavs Abdukhalikov, Director of the Center, reveals the mission behind this initiative is not merely to function like a museum but to create an international platform that strengthens cultural dialogues surrounding spiritual values and knowledge.
A Grand Architectural Project
The Center is set to open in March 2026, featuring a striking architectural design that integrates the best of Uzbek tradition. A key highlight of the complex will be its central exhibit, the Mushaf of Uthman, an ancient Quran manuscript recognized by UNESCO. This remarkable structure, built on a historic site in Tashkent, promises to be an exemplar of both cultural heritage and modern creativity.
Abdukhalikov envisions this Center as a place where scientists, students, and artists from across the globe can engage and collaborate, showcasing the profound influence of Islamic scholars on various fields, including algebra, astronomy, and medicine.
Cultural Impact and Recognition
The ambition behind the Center to serve as a learning hub emphasizes the need to respect and study the wisdom of Uzbekistan's ancestors. Experts who've visited the site have noted its innovative presentation of cultural heritage and its alignment with global scientific and educational standards. Some even refer to this initiative as a potential “eighth wonder of the world”.
