Bridging the Gap: Students Meet Future Employers
Walking into Auburn University’s College of Education building, you'd get hit with the buzz of anticipation wafting through the halls. The Fall Education Interview Day was in full swing. With over 35 employers in attendance, this event wasn’t just any run-of-the-mill career fair. This was a chance for students to lock eyes with their future employers, and for some, perhaps even snag a job offer before the ink on their degree is dry.
A Platform for Every Stage
The beauty of Education Interview Day is its inclusivity—open to all students, regardless of major or stage in their academic journey. Whether you’re a fresh-faced freshman or a world-weary senior about to turn that tassel, there’s something to gain. Karlee Hall, the integrated marketing and communications coordinator for Career Discovery and Success, put it plainly: “Education Interview Day offers freshmen the opportunity to speak with different school districts, hear what those districts are looking for and determine what skills they need to develop throughout their academic career.”
Now, if you’re closer to flipping that graduation cap, the stakes are a bit higher. Seniors like Thomas Cleckler and Maddy Mooneyham are on the hunt—not just for advice, but for real opportunities nestled among Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Virginia, and beyond.
First Impressions with Lasting Impact
Greenville County Schools from South Carolina is one of those stalwarts that sets up shop at Auburn’s fairgrounds year after year. Angela Jarecki and Kelly English, their representatives, have seen the gamut of candidates. But, as Jarecki notes, “Of all the colleges we visit— and we visit a lot of schools— the candidates at Auburn are very prepared, come professionally dressed with resumes in hand and showcase good manners.”
The feedback from employers visiting Auburn is straightforward: They consistently hire several Auburn alumni because of their superb preparation.
The Road Ahead for Education Majors
It’s a tough world out there, with educators facing evolving demands and challenges. Auburn's College of Education, having been around since 1915, knows a thing or two about preparing students. Offering 60 degree options, this establishment equips graduates for a slew of roles as educators, administrators, counselors, and more.
This isn’t just a day of handshakes and polite exchanges. It’s a pivotal point for students like Mooneyham, who’s looking to dive into the world of elementary education in Georgia after graduation. As she learned, “...it allowed me to get familiar with interview questions and understand what schools are looking for as I prepare to graduate.”
Bigger Picture: Building Futures
There's a wider narrative here about connecting the dots between education and careers. Auburn’s commitment to facilitating these relationships reflects a broader mission to arm students with tools and networks they need to thrive. In an era where job markets are as unpredictable as the weather, having this kind of safety net can be a game-changer.
Sure, it's just an event, but for many, it symbolizes a gateway to opportunity—a chance to peek into the professional world and start their journey.
