ANEW Medical, Inc. Acquires Innovative Technology
ANEW MEDICAL, INC. (“ANEW” or the “Company”) (Nasdaq: WENA) has announced that it has signed an exclusive worldwide licensing agreement with Transfertech Sherbrooke (“TTS”) for Nanoject. This innovative technology is a needle-free, freeze-dried nanopowder autoinjector designed for administering medicines and vaccines.
Tackling Needle Phobia
Needle phobia is a widespread issue that affects both adults and children, often leading to anxiety during injections and making it difficult for patients to stick to medical protocols. Conventional methods such as creams, patches, and liquid autoinjectors can be costly and come with various formulation limitations, underscoring the urgent need for better alternatives.
How Nanoject Works
The patented Nanoject delivery system employs a pressure-driven flow from a miniature shock tube, enabling it to rapidly inject nano-sized or micron-sized medication particles into the skin at speeds of up to 600 meters per second. This allows for effective delivery into both intradermal and subcutaneous tissues.
Insights from ANEW’s Leadership
Dr. Joseph Sinkule, the CEO of ANEW, shared his excitement about this technology, stating, “ANEW is continuously exploring opportunities to generate near-term revenue while leveraging our expertise to develop new patented technologies that are critically needed for treating human diseases. The nanoparticle injector signifies a major breakthrough in drug delivery, effectively addressing challenges related to storage, stability, and dosage.”
Collaborative Efforts for Development and Distribution
Jeffrey LeBlanc, ANEW's CFO, mentioned that the company is working on a low-cost, needle-free delivery method aimed at enhancing the quality of life for patients across various healthcare sectors, including pain management and vaccination. They intend to partner with pharmaceutical companies to innovate drugs that are protected by patents.
Leadership of the Nanoject Business Unit
Eric Boyd has been appointed to lead operations and partnerships within the Nanoject division. He will collaborate closely with TTS and Dr. Martin Brouillette’s lab at Université de Sherbrooke. Boyd highlighted the vast number of injections performed annually, which drives the need for more patient-friendly solutions, particularly emphasizing the suitability of this technology for self-administration by patients.
