Aduro Clean Technologies and Cleanfarms Partner for Plastics Recycling

Aduro Clean Technologies and Cleanfarms Partner for Plastics Recycling

Innovative Collaboration for Sustainable Agriculture

Aduro Clean Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: ADUR) has embarked on an exciting journey by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Cleanfarms Inc., known as AgriRÉCUP in Quebec. This partnership aims to tackle a pressing environmental issue – the recycling of on-farm plastic waste that is notoriously difficult to handle through conventional means.

The Issue with Agricultural Plastics

Modern farming employs various agricultural plastics such as silage film, bale wrap, grain bags, netting, and twine. While essential, these materials create substantial recycling hurdles primarily due to their high contamination levels and the inadequate end-of-life options available. In fact, the agricultural sector in Canada produces approximately 62,000 tonnes of plastic waste annually, most of which ends up in landfills or is incinerated.

Collaborative Phases to Address Challenges

This innovative collaboration is structured into three distinct phases designed to evaluate both the technical and economic viability of using Aduro's Hydrochemolytic™ Technology (HCT) for recycling agricultural plastics. Each phase serves as a critical step toward solving this environmental challenge.

Phase A: Laboratory Feasibility Trials

The initial phase requires Aduro to perform laboratory-scale tests using various agricultural plastic waste samples provided by Cleanfarms. These samples will reflect real-world contamination scenarios, allowing Aduro to measure conversion efficiency, contaminant tolerance, and product composition accurately. The findings will guide the preparation requirements and suitability of the feedstock for potential large-scale applications.

Phase B: Scale-Up and Process Modeling

The second phase involves Cleanfarms providing larger quantities of field-grade plastics to Aduro’s Next Generation Pilot plant for processing. During this stage, system performance under continuous flow will be evaluated, alongside the operational stability and preprocessing requirements. This phase also includes creating a preliminary economic model to assess market potential and environmental impact.

Phase C: Demonstration Plant Integration

In this phase, contingent upon the success of previous phases, agricultural plastics will be analyzed for potential integration into Aduro’s planned Demonstration Plant. Establishing scalable feedstock streams is vital for this stage, aiming to ensure that continuous operations can be validated while refining economic models guided by Cleanfarms’ comprehensive logistical expertise.

Commitment to Sustainability

Barry Friesen, Executive Director at Cleanfarms, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, “Our members seek scalable technologies to recover materials that currently have limited or no recycling options. Evaluating chemical recycling is a crucial step in enhancing the circular economy for Canadian agriculture.”

Future Directions for Aduro Clean Technologies

Aduro is at the forefront of environmental technology, continuously striving to transform low-value feedstocks into valuable resources. The Hydrochemolytic™ Technology not only addresses waste plastic management but also sets a foundation for sustainable methods that benefit the farming industry. With the ongoing support from Cleanfarms, Aduro is poised to introduce groundbreaking solutions to a sector in dire need of innovation.
