Abramowitz was a true pioneer, dedicating her professional life to strategies that empower underserved communities. At the time of her passing, she was the managing partner of CDFI Friendly America, an organization dedicated to connecting small cities with community development financial institutions (CDFIs). Additionally, she founded Consulting for Change, providing essential services to strengthen CDFIs and nonprofits.
A Trailblazer in Community Development
Mark Pinsky, a business partner of Abramowitz and former CEO of OFN, remarked on her transformative impact: “In the 1980s, she focused on small business lending for BIPOC entrepreneurs, laying important groundwork. Her consulting work in the 1990s helped establish a vibrant community of CDFI consultants. Over the years, she implemented strategies for organizational development that have ensured the industry’s adaptability.”
Her journey started at the Philadelphia Association of Cooperative Enterprise (PACE) from 1982 to 1987, where she helped worker-owned businesses thrive through loans and training. In 1987, she contributed to the founding of the Cooperative Business Assistance Corporation (CBAC), a nonprofit CDFI serving southern New Jersey.
Abramowitz later joined OFN, where her nine-year tenure significantly contributed to the strategic growth of the organization and the wider CDFI sector. Afterward, she consulted for various organizations, enhancing their capabilities to effect community transformation, focused on creating economic opportunities for low-income families.

Donna Gambrell, Chair of OFN's Board of Directors, noted, “Adina was respected for her ability to blend kindness with directness, inspiring action among her peers. Her exceptional mentorship touched thousands of CDFI practitioners, representing the essence of the Gramlich Award.”
