30+ Electors, Including Pelosi's Daughter, Want Intel Briefing on Russia Hacks
Electoral College members getting ready to vote against the will of the people in their states?
A growing number of electors are requesting an intelligence briefing on Russian hacking ahead of Monday's Electoral College votes.
The number is now believed to be above 30, including Rep. Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) daughter and Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta is backing the effort.
"If there is evidence that not only was the election tainted but that one of the candidates knew about that and profited from it, then that is certainly something the electors should know in advance," said Christine Pelosi.
Meantime, a Harvard law professor says more than 30 electors may be getting ready to flip their vote in order to prevent President-elect Donald Trump from reaching 270.
Larry Lessig has previously said he would provide legal support to electors who wish to defy their states' election results and vote against Trump.
On "America's Newsroom" today, political experts Ed Rollins and Joe Trippi discussed the unprecedented situation. They agreed that it's hard to imagine the electors changing the outcome of the election.
If no candidate reaches 270 electoral votes, the decision goes to the House of Representatives. Trippi noted that the nation's founders set up the Electoral College as a "deliberative body" and they deserve to get the briefing if they choose.
Rollins said he views the effort as "purely partisan crybaby-ing" by Clinton's team, calling it an "absurd challenge" to the election results.
"The electors are picked by the parties, by the candidates and they're pledged to vote how the voters direct them," he noted, adding this is how it has worked since 1789.
