They're terrified of medical cannabis steam roller. In bed with Big Pharma and other moneyed vested interests who lose from federal rescheduling of cannabis and legalization of mmj. For example, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NDIA), overseen by the HHS, has continually blocked studies of cannabis effects on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) of veterans. Do they despise veterans that much? They play the old bureaucratic game of feigning cooperation but passing the ball from agency to agency to ensure that requests they don't like are not honored for years. These bureaucracies are all of the executive branch and report to Mr. O who campaigned in 2007/8 on repeated promises of federally unblocked access to medical cannabis by patients. Yet, in the first 4.5 years of his administration, there had never been seen the intensity of federal persecution of purveyors of state-legal MMJ.

Researchers who want to study medical marijuana as a treatment for PTSD say the U.S. government is making it very hard to do so.
"The non-profit Multidisciplinary Association For Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) is trying to obtain a supply of cannabis for the first FDA-approved clinical trial of medical marijuana for post-traumatic stress disorder."
"Many who suffer from PTSD have reported benefits from cannabis use, and evidence from animal studies provides further support."
"Unfortunately, despite the availability of medical marijuana in certain states, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is the only legal source of cannabis for researchers. And compared to the FDA, getting NIDA’s approval for a clinical trial has proven a lot harder."

"The Drug Enforcement Administration has denied researchers requests to obtain licenses to grow marijuana, claiming that the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) — overseen by the HHS — can be the only one to supply marijuana for Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-regulated research."
"Recently, a study conducted by Haifa University in Israel found that rats which were treated with marijuana within 24 hours of a traumatic experience successfully avoided any symptoms of PTSD. But no studies have been conducted on humans."
“Hundreds of veterans in medical marijuana states already report using marijuana to control their PTSD symptoms,” MAPS said in a statement. “The growing number of service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with combat-related trauma combined with large numbers of treatment-resistant veterans highlights the pressing need for research into additional treatments for PTSD.”

These people collect generous, salaries, benefits and perks from the taxpayers. They are suppposed to be public servants. They have had, since January 2009/10, the authority to reschedule cannabis on the DEA CSA list. They have refused to do so, and have blocked legitimate cannabis research despite the American people polling 85% supporting medical cannabis. Since 1970, the federal gvt has deemed cannabis as a banned andf illegal substance of no medical value when, in application, cannabis is indisputably of enormous medical benefit and could save the nation many billions of dollars in medical treatment costs. Why are these people blocking the path of medical progress toward a healthier America? It's shameful.
