Discover Insights from the 2024 National Latino Tracking Poll
Key Insights from the National Latino Tracking Poll
Entravision, in collaboration with AltaMed Health Services and BSP Research, has unveiled the initial findings from the 2024 National Latino Tracking Poll. This pivotal survey offers real-time insights into the preferences and concerns of Latino voters as the November elections approach. Among the most pressing issues identified in the survey were economic factors such as the cost of living, employment opportunities, and housing affordability. Understanding these sentiments is crucial as they shape voting behaviors and preferences within the Latino community.
Understanding Latino Voter Concerns
The first week of results highlighted several key issues that Latino voters prioritize. When asked to identify their top three concerns, a significant 57% of respondents pointed to the cost of living and inflation. Following closely, 35% emphasized jobs and the economy as critical factors, while housing affordability was mentioned by 28% of voters. Health care costs, immigration reform, and gun violence are also notable issues that resonate with this electorate.
Awareness and Participation
With just seven weeks until the election, enthusiasm among Latino voters remains high. An impressive 87% of participants expressed either certainty or likelihood of voting. However, outreach efforts have room for improvement, as 52% reported not being contacted by any party or candidate about registration or voting. This highlights the critical need for candidates and organizations to enhance their communication efforts to ensure these voters feel informed and empowered.
Policy Priorities for the Latino Community
Policy action on key issues also emerged from the poll. A notable 87% of respondents supported allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices, while 83% favored legislation against price gouging. Additionally, many expressed a desire for a path to citizenship for long-term undocumented immigrants and expanded health care access for Dreamers and DACA recipients. These findings underscore the necessity for candidates to address these priorities in their platforms.
Health Care as a Major Concern
The survey revealed that health care is a significant concern for Latino voters. When asked about their top health care challenges, 59% indicated that access to more affordable services is a primary issue. Moreover, 42% mentioned the need for better access to primary care, and 34% identified the availability of services within their communities as a concern. These issues must be at the forefront of discussions as the election nears.
Candidates’ Favorability Ratings
When it comes to perceptions of political figures, Vice President Kamala Harris received the highest favorability among respondents, with 60% viewing her positively, while 35% had an unfavorable opinion. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden had a narrower favorability margin of 49% to 45%. Overall, these ratings indicate that local and national candidates have varying levels of support within the Latino community, which is essential to consider as campaigns develop.
Party Perceptions and Engagement
The poll further explored how Latino voters perceive the outreach efforts of political parties. While 50% of respondents rated the Democratic party's outreach positively, only 33% felt the same about the Republicans. Furthermore, a concerning 29% viewed the GOP as hostile towards Latinos, which could impact voting behaviors in the upcoming elections.
The Importance of Ongoing Polling
As the only weekly national poll focused on Latino voters, the National Latino Tracking Poll significantly informs electoral strategies and highlights ever-changing public opinions. The poll tracks the sentiments of 500 registered Latino voters each week, reflecting dynamic trends in the Latino electorate. Respondents can complete the survey in both English and Spanish, ensuring inclusivity in gathering these vital opinions.
