HCTI: State of California Places Isocyanates on Restricted List May Ban Outright Within 24 Months
GlobeNewswire - Tue Mar 25, 8:25AM CDT
Hybrid Coating Technologies Inc. (OTCBB:HCTI) is pleased to announce that the state of California's Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) has selected isocyanates and two other substances from a list of 1,100 toxic components that it will focus on with the goal of potentially banning them altogether within the next two years. The announcement is part of a bigger effort to educate consumers and manufacturers about product safety under the Green-Chemistry Law, which went into effect in California last year. Under the law, the agency has jurisdiction to ban these products altogether after following proper protocol. That process includes workshops, a public comment period and requiring manufacturers that want to sell these products in California to determine whether it would be feasible to use safer ingredients. "We are encouraged by the announcement of the California DTSC with respect to isocyanates," said Joseph Kristul, President and CEO of Hybrid. "This is a common process that is followed prior to any new regulations being put into place. In the short span of a few years we have seen increased regulatory opposition to isocyanates. In 2011 we saw the U.S. EPA up the pressure with its MDI Action Plan, then the U.S. Department of Labor followed suit in 2013 with its National Emphasis Program against isocyanates and now local state governments like California are taking their own action."
